RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY

DENTAL FILLINGS: We do tooth colored restorations creating fillings which are aesthetically pleasing and strengthen weak teeth. We run a mercury free practice. Silver fillings are not very pleasing to the eye, in addition a lot of tooth structure is lost while doing these fillings, making the tooth weak. On the other hand, Tooth colored restorations require minimal tooth cutting and are bonded to the teeth creating a tight, superior fit to natural tooth. They contain fluoride and prevent further tooth decay.

DENTAL CROWNS & BRIDGES:  are very reliable solutions for major dental problems caused due to accidents, diseases or wear & tear, replacing missing teeth. These include full ceramics, porcelain fused to metal, metal, DMLS(direct metal laser sintering) and many more.

Crowns are placed when the damage to the tooth is extreme and beyond repair. It is an extremely reliable technique for repairing most severe dental problems.Bridges are used to replace missing teeth. They attach an artificial tooth to the adjacent natural tooth, called abutment. Bridges can be fixed permanently or can be removable.

DENTAL IMPLANTS: these are tiny titanium posts that are placed into the jawbone to replace missing teeth. Implants help preserve facial structures preventing bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.the patient who has lost his teeth regains the ability to eat anything and smile with confidence, knowing that the teeth appear natural and the facial contours are well preserved. It takes about 2 sittings to perform an implant surgery. The surgery is done under local anesthesia. In the first sitting the implant is placed in the jaw bone where it takes about 3 months to osseointegrate with the bone. The second sitting is then performed after 3 months of osseointegration wherein the abutment is placed on which the artificial crown will be placed. However before implant surgery is performed , the dentist will ask you to get a few radiological and blood tests done.

DENTURES:
Complete denture: it is a complete set of teeth often called an appliance that is inserted in the mouth replacing natural teeth and providing support to cheeks and lips thereby maintaining facial symmetry. Most dentures are made of acrylic and can be fabricated in different ways.
A conventional denture is made after all the teeth are extracted and the gums have healed. Whereas an immediate denture is made immediately after extraction is done and the gums are allowed to heal below the denture.
The teeth on the denture are made of plastic ,porcelain or a combination of both. One needs to know that dentures wear with time and need to be replaced or relined in order to keep jaw alignment normal, as the alignment of the jaw slowly changes as the bone recedes and shrinks due to extraction of teeth.

Removable partial denture: it's made of the same material as the complete denture is made of, however it is used to replace a few teeth.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT(RCT): is usually done to save the teeth that have been hampered by infection of the pulp. Symptoms of infection can be identified as a visible swelling, pain, injury to the tooth and sensitivity to temperature. It involves the treatment of the pulp. The pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. In RCT the pulp is removed and the root canals are thoroughly  cleaned and sealed. This therapy is done under local anesthesia and is usually completed in one or two sittings.
After the treatment is completed the dentist may recall you for a crown placement if there is extensive tooth loss or for the placement for a filling.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY

DENTAL BONDING: is an alternative to veneers, done with tooth coloured composite materials to repair chipped, discoloured and cracked teeth. The bonding procedure generally involves the preparation of the tooth for dental bonding by lightly etching the surface of the tooth and applying a bonding agent. Once the liquid sets, a resin is applied and sculpted into the desired shape followed by trimming and polishing to match the natural appearance of the tooth. This procedure is generally completed in a single sitting/ visit to the dental office. It lasts for 3-5 years before needing repair.

DENTAL VENEERS: veneers are thin shells of porcelain bonded to the teeth directly to the front and top surfaces. It's an ideal choice to improve the smile, fill up gaps between teeth, for stained, cracked and badly shaped teeth. Veneer placement requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail. We place veneers routinely and design each case individually to match and enhance the characteristics of each patient's smile. Veneers are ultra thin and virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea and cigarette stains. For strength and appearance their resemblance to healthy white tooth enamel is unsurpassable by other restorative material.

TOOTH  WHITENING/BLEACHING: is a safe, quick and inexpensive chair-side procedure done to whiten the teeth that have been discolored due to age, stains, chemical changes and medications .
Two types of whitening procedures are done:
In-office whitening is done chair-side and requires a time of 45minutes to 1 hour.
At-home whitening procedure done with prefabricated whitening trays which one has to wear for a few hours per day for  a week or two to achieve the desired results. The trays would be fabricated by your dentist after taking an impression.

Over the counter whitening agents are available at the pharmacies. However ,since these products can cause harm to the teeth and gums, it's advisable to use the products which are advised by your dentist.

PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY

DIGITAL IMAGING & DIAGNOSIS: these are digitized intraoral x rays usually taken as a prerequisite for any dental treatment. They help in diagnosis for teeth that would require RCT, extractions, and show bone loss. It also gives us an opportunity to evaluate your current methods of dental care and provide suggestions for future care in order to protect you from complications such as cavities and gum disease. These methods allow us to detect problems early so that they can be fixed quickly and easily.

ORAL HYGIENE MAINTENANCE: is done as a chairside procedure, also known as oral prophylaxis/ scaling to remove tartar/calculus from the teeth to maintain the periodontal health. Usually advised every 6 months.
The best way to maintain your oral hygiene is by brushing and flossing twice daily. It is usually advisable to use a soft to medium bristled toothbrush. Position the brush at a  45 degree angle where your gums and teeth meet. Then generally move your brush in a circular motion several times. For  inner surfaces of upper and lower teeth plave your toothbrush vertically inside making several back and forth motions over each tooth.
For the flat surfaces of the back teeth place your brush flat facing the surface of the teeth.
Remember not to brush very hard and do not brush in a horizontal motion as it wears the enamel at the neck of your teeth , making teeth susceptible to sensitivity. Also remember to change your toothbrush every three months and immediately if you have any infection like flu.

Periodontal disease usually occurs in areas of the teeth where the brush cannot reach. To clean such areas it's advisable to use a dental floss. Start with using a waxed floss thread easily available in the market. Take the floss and wrap it around the middle finger of both hands, now gently insert it in between your teeth and with an up and down motion start cleaning these spaces .
Dental floss are also available as interdental brushes of various thickness and water flossers in the market, ask your dentist to advise you for one.

CHILDREN’S DENTISTRY: your child's first visit to the dental office should be just after your child’s third birthday , during which an examination of your child's teeth, gums and mouth is done. An evaluation of adverse habits like thumb sucking, bottle feeding, if fluoride application is required and to teach you how to clean your child's teeth and gums.

Here are some first visit tips:

Take your child for a preview to the dental office.
Read books with them about going to the dentist. You can also show them videos of a child's pleasant visit to the dentist.
Review with them what the dentist will be doing on the first visit.
Speak positively of your own dental visit.

Current researches show that there are some childhood health issues that can be impacted by oral health.
Most of the times dental issues like cavities occur due to lack of brushing and improper eating habits. Baby teeth are important as they not only hold space for permanent teeth but they are also important for chewing, biting, speech and appearance.

DENTAL EXTRACTIONS: a tooth needs to be extracted when it is severely decayed , others may have advanced periodontal problems or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Teeth can also be extracted if they are poorly placed in the jaw like impacted teeth or in the preparation of orthodontic treatment.

5.DENTAL SEALANTS & VARNISH: sealants are flowable tooth coloured materials placed directly on teeth which have deep fissures/grooves to prevent food lodgement that could cause decay. They are easy to apply and it takes only a few minutes to seal a tooth. Sealants hold well under the force of normal chewing and last several years before a reapplication is needed.
Varnish is a fluoride releasing material which is coated on the teeth with an applicator brush to prevent your teeth from decay and harmful effects of stomach acids and soda.
